AVAILABLE OPTIONS MENU HELP
The "Available Options" menu is the main menu for the Custom shell configuration utility. The list of options on this menu will change when you select a LAN driver.
The following options may appear on this menu:
--Select Resource Sets
--Select LAN Driver
--Configure Driver / Resources
--Edit Resource List
--Edit Resource Sets
--Save Selections and Continue
The "Select Resource Sets" option is used to tell the shell configuration utility about extra hardware on the work station that might possibly conflict with the LAN driver's configuration. If this option needs to be done, it should be done first.
The "Select LAN Driver" option allows you to select a LAN driver for the shell.
The "Configure Driver / Resources" option allows you to tell the program how your hardware will be configured. This program should not allow you to select anything that would create a hardware conflict.
"Edit Resource List" and "Edit Resource Sets" allow you to create and define your own resources and resource sets.

SELECT LOADED ITEM
This option allows you to select resource set(s) that are already
loaded into the shell configuration utility.
LOAD AND SELECT ITEM
This option allows you to load resource set definitions from the

RESOURCE SET DEFINITIONS ALREADY EXIST HELP
The "Resource Set Definitions Already Exist" window indicates that the defined resource sets have already been loaded into the shell generation program. This is almost always the case because that file is loaded when the program begins execution. This program function is for future resource set upgrades, and the documentation accompanying any resource upgrade should instruct you as to which option would be best to take. You have three options:
DO NOT LOAD NEW RESOURCE SET DEFINITIONS
This option allows you to keep the existing definitions. If
you highlight this option and press the SELECT key, the
"Resource Set Options" menu will reappear on the screen.
RESOURCE SET DEFINITIONS ALREADY EXIST
MERGE NEW WITH EXISTING RESOURCE SET DEFINITIONS
This option allows you to load new resource set definitions
and merge them with the existing definitions. See the
instructions below to continue.
REPLACE EXISTING RESOURCE SET DEFINITIONS
This option allows you to load new resource set definitions,
replacing the existing definitions. See the instructions
below to continue.
When choosing either of these last two options, first insert a disk labeled "SHGEN-1" that has the new resource set definition file "SUBSYS.SYS" located on it. Then press the SELECT key. When the program is done reading in the file, re-insert the original "SHGEN-1" disk that was in the drive before this option was selected; then you can continue normal program execution.

The following options may be displayed in the "Configure Drivers / Resources" window depending on the what driver and resource sets you selected, and on what you have already configured.
--Choose Resource Configuration
--Choose LAN Configuration
--Review Selected Configurations

The "Bus Type" refers to the type of hardware bus this resource is designed to be used with - "Standard" bus indicates that the resource is only compatible with other resources that use a standard bus, "Micro Channel" bus indicates that the resource is only compatible with other resources that use a micro channel bus, and "Either Type" indicates that the resource is compatible with resources that use either type of bus.
The I/O port range is the number of contiguous ports decoded by that resource. The memory range is the number of paragraphs decoded by the resource. The interrupt lines are defined if the hardware configuration uses interrupts. Likewise, DMA lines are defined only if the configuration uses them.
This information is used by the program when comparing configurations to decide if they are compatible. Compatible configurations cannot have overlapping I\O or memory ranges. They cannot use the same INT or DMA lines. And they must have compatible bus types.
